Meet the Founder
Mountain Mosaic is a small, hands-on team. Every project gets personal attention from people who are passionate about the movement.

"A well-designed yard looks good after the initial install, but the real magic happens in year two or three, when native plants finally settle in and the eco-scape can function at full force."
Who is Mountain Mosaic?
The Team
Steve Kumar grew up in Boulder County with dirt under his fingernails and a restless curiosity about the outdoors. At ten years old he started a lawn mowing business in his neighborhood which quickly grew into something much bigger: seasonal maintenance, garden design, and falling in love with the way a yard could be transformed.
That early spark led him to the University of Colorado, where he earned a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture. For the last nine years he has worked across several design-build companies and landscape architecture firms, designing everything from private gardens to urban parks and neighborhood amenity complexes.
During his travels through Europe, Latin America, and beyond, Steve noticed the same thing: people work with their land. They grow food in their yards, harvest rainwater, and embrace what naturally wants to grow in their climate. Back home, the American suburban default: expansive lawns and rocks over weed fabric, looked increasingly out of place, especially here in Colorado, where that same footprint could instead be a productive, water-wise landscape teeming with life.
A regenerative approach to land stewardship was his answer.
Steve founded Mountain Mosaic on the belief that beautiful outdoor spaces and healthy ecosystems aren't competing goals. A yard can reduce water use, support pollinators, grow food, and look stunning all at once.
